What's it worth to you for me not to tell the "full story" at the offline !?!?!?!

I think I am currently about $800 over budget for the year (and there is still a quarter to go....)

Seriously though, I think I'm about 1K over with a few more 'small' buys to come. I'll have to do a bit of overtime to pay for it.

yep, that is my intention. I am in the early stages of stocking my "cellar" (read mesh cage in the apartment's underground carpark) but am constrained by a pretty tight budget. Always on the lookout for wines of any persuasion that have good cellaring potential and are under $20 though.

The Barwang duo, cab and shiraz for under $12 could suit - should handle 8-10 years easily. Drink them while you're waiting 15 years+ for the Tahbilk Cab 06 to fully mature. The Tahbilk shiraz 06 has had some good press too.

Cheers

Just to follow a rather unoriginal trend:
Clonakilla SV and O'Raida '09 - my first dip into the Clonakilla hype
&
Nick O'Leary Shiraz 09 (08 was quite exciting - hoping for great things)
Church Block 08 (@12.50 who could say no)

No hype on the SV, justified quality I would say, very good wine indeed.

I think a balanced view though is that there are a number of really good Cote Roties which are similar quality, similar prices. I don't see a great climb on price tbh like Grange and HOG went up from 1994-2000, driven by worldwide demand.

Australian Shiraz is a great style, but Clonakilla SV goes head to head with Northern Rhone - rather well it must be said!

I thought the 2008 SV a bit heavy, bigger is NOT better in this style, personally I think Clonakilla shows better in lighter years like 2005.

A bottle each of the Barwang Hilltops 08 cab and shiraz duo, think I'll get at least another bottle of each for <$12.

Got to love the NZ wine market at the moment. Even ignoring the good deals, even ignoring the very good deals and just taking advantage of the crazy deals on genuinely blue chip wines you can still spend the budget!

2007 Church Rd Reserve Cabernet Merlot $22.99 at my favourite yellow supermarket. Another half dozen for the cellar

Yip. Only enough cash in my pocket to gather 2 of these at my local yellow shop for $23.99 Friday. Cellar space is cramped and have
a few tucked away so I just went ahead and drank them both over the weekend. Yum. And Yum.

And the 07 ep bdx has arrived. Picked up 6x 2007 Doisy Daene, Barsac, 375 on Saturday. Since the 2007 bdx was not higly fancied I mostly purchased these so my retailer would remember me for campaigns such as 2009. There was an open box of Pontet Cantet 07 sitting on the floor, $130pb. Tempted by the good review in August Decanter, but resisted, mostly due to straightened cash flow at the moment.

cheers jafa.

Yip I think I have about 1.5 doz of the CRR. I VERY rarely buy over half a doz of anything these days. Its great vfm along with the syrah. It showed its class at Mel's birthday when we had it next to 94 SRL, 05 Puriri Res + 02 La Collina all wines hanging around close to the $100 mark. I am spending less and less on wine but there is a buying threshold for even me. This (and $30 for a 08 Le Sol) trips that threshold.

I think the only significant purchases I will make before the end of the year will be a mixed case of 08 Puriri Hills as soon as they are released and a 6 pack of a good NZ sparkling for my 40th, but will wait for the pre xmas sparkling sales for that purchase

Amazingly I haven't bought anything apart from quaffing wines ...

The bad thing is my "to buy" list is longer then ever. Thankfully Bordeaux is over but 2009 Rhone EP is to come. It sounds like 1999 in Cote Rotie - if so, a lot of buying to be done.
