a few brief notes from a great night
Appetisers : Coffin Bay Oysters Natural and Smoked, Charcuterie share platter
2002 Krug Vintage - young, tight, and really good as it warmed
Krug Rose – fuller in mouth, aldehydic and went well with the smoked oysters
Entre: bacon wrapped Scalops
1978 Dom Jacques Prieur Montrachet – too oxidised for me
1998 Ravenau Chablis Butteaux – saline and sea shell, great length and mouthfeel
1994 Dom Bruno Clair Corton Charlemaine – much bigger wine and suited the salty bacon
Mains: Fillet Steak or Lamb Rump or Spatchcock
1973 Penfolds Grange Hermitage (Clinic) – nice showing but outclassed
1978 Penfolds Grange Hermitage (Clinic) – bigger wine, full, fresh and meaty. In a great spot now
1980 Penfolds Grange Hermitage – lighter in mouthfeel, more elegant than the 78. Feminine style?
1992 Henchke Hill of Grace – balanced, mid weight wine, spicy shiraz. Drinking well.
1994 Henchke Hill of Grace - Bretty
1996 Penfolds Block 42 Cabernet – elegance and power at the same time. Will be great in time.
1999 Vega Sicilia Unico – Corked. TCA. Bugger
1998 Wendouree Shiraz – big, rich and minty.Perfect recovery from the previous wine.
Desert:
1999 Chd’Yquem – Wow.Rich and sweet with perfect acid to cut the finish. Savoured this a while.
1990 Trimbach Pinot Gris SGN– completely different to the above and while it was clearly Riesling

it also was classy and outclassed by the previous wine.
Morris Old Premium Muscat – rich fruitcake and spice. Hard to drink lots.
1930 Seppelt Para Liquer – rancio, raisins and better balance than above.
I did not get the full details on all the wines. Ian will probably fill in the gaps later.
An excellent night in good company.
cheers
Phill
