Mildara coonawarra cabs

Could somebody help me with the more recent vintages of the Mildara white label cabernet? Are they any good? I enjoyed the '98 cab quite a lot and thought it was worth the $20 I paid for. How are the '99, '00 or '01 vintages?

I loved the 98, didn't like the 99 and 00 enough to buy. I bought some 01 recently at $14.99 (VC rare special, now finished). The 01 is under screwcap (apparently only 1,000 cases made) and at this stage is showing as a fairly lean wine (not green though) without the initial sweet fruit and richness of the 98. It did breathe up after an hour or so, with more fruit over a firmish tannic backbone but the tasting group rated the 02 Penley Phoenix higher. I wouldn't buy it at the regular asking price of about $23.
Cheers

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Ha! I saw that price ($15 or so) in a VC in Sydney last night, and my first reaction was to think they'd changed the fruit source something chronic, and that the white label cab was therefore a shadow of it's former self. Notwithstanding, of course, that the back label still chatted on about Peppermint Patty in the time-honoured way.

Maybe I'll rethink...

cheers,
Graeme
