Willespie - 2 whites, 2 reds

Post by PaulSheldon »

Willespie Tasting at VCs

00 Verdehlo ($18.99)
Good fruit (stonefruit, at touch of melon) on the nose, nice lush mouthfeel, lacks acid but does finish reasonably well. Drink now, won't last any longer. Good

00 Semillon Savignon Blanc ($18.99)
Smooth and refined both on the nose and the palate, but lacks power and has very little of the classic grassiness expected from the blend, not a good example for me. Average

NV Cabernets (97 Cab Franc, 98 Cab Sav) $18.99
Colour a medium purple-red, medium weight at best. Lovely rich nose, floral, cassis, chocolate, good palate weight despite its colour, smooth, soft tannins and a long finish. Very nice wine at this price. Very Good

98 Cabernet Sauvignon ($29.59)
Colour similar to the NV Cabernets. Big powerful nose of cassis and blackberry with hints of chocolate and liquorice and a touch of earthiness, some nice aged qualities emerging, equally powerful palate but well balanced and smooth. Long finish, medium tannins, well rounded with not a hint of greeness. Very good example of MR cabernet without a big price tag. Very Good
