Info about Amon-Ra Shiraz 2002 by Glaetzer?
Hello again,
April is almost here and I noticed that a wine called Amon-Ra, a Shiraz made by Glaetzer Wines is being released over here in Sweden on Monday. The vintage is 2002 and I was wondering if anyone out there had any info about this wine. I have heard of and tried Glaetzer Shiraz and their Bishop Shiraz, but never a wine called Amon-Ra. Is this purly an export label or....?
Hope some of you guys knows something about it. The price in AUD is around $65.00.
Kind regards,
Anders

Anders,
The 2002 Amon-Ra is a HUGE wine (look here http://www.auswine.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=940&highlight= for my earlier notes). You definitely have to have an appetite for a wine like this, but if you haven't ever tried one, AUD$65 is not unreasonable. The price here in the States was originally about US$40, then sky-rocketed following the Parker review (he gave it a very high score). It's now going for well upwards of US$100.
Regards,
Alan

Anders,
I've tasted the entire range of Mitolos '02 bar the "Barossa Amon-Ra" upon release. All excellent but short of being outstanding. This time I tot RP was a lil generous on his points.

My TN on Amon-Ra, Tasted April 3rd, 2004:
Amon-ra '02, Barossa Valley - the big whore. It was so dense and plushy it was hard not to love it with all that ripe black fruit,. However, I did keep this one over the course of the evening too, it seemed to loose some points in complexity for me. A beauty in concentration, a bit flabby in structure.
For those prices quoted above, I would head caution. Parkers in a faze right now, he likes the Aussies sweet and jammy, I personally am completely and entirely unhappy with many of his choices recently.
Structure is often my big issue - a strange phenomena for Parker.
Cheers,
Mishy
