Recruiting a Pinot Noir reviewer.

Post by Tom Munro »

I work at the small but extraordinary Whisson Lake vineyard in the Adelaide Hills where we have been single-mindedly focused on growing Pinot Noir for 25 years. We are looking to make our website a social hub for the global Pinot Noir community and recently began a "Global Pinot Noir News" page. We would like to build on this by recruiting a critic who has the skills and experience to rate and review a vast number of Pinot Noir wines from around the world. Could that be you? If you like the idea of becoming our web critic and tasting your way through every Pinot we can lay our hands on, then please drop me a line. Tom

I love the idea of tasting every pinot you can lay your hands on, but have neither skill nor experience to justify my interest ;)

Great experience is needed to review Pinot Noir correctly as this red grape is the hardest to understand.

Like an amateur Gynaecologist, I have little experience but am willing to look into it for you

Actually, I have tried a s)>t load of pinots over the years, local and international and have almost given up on them, especially locally, and the best of the Frog stuff is outside my price range these days.

Lovely wine. I have had it once about 2 years ago. A wine broker brought it to dinner. I had hoped he was going to bring a burgundy but was more than happy with this wine after we tried it. Pity I don't drink enough of the stuff to put my hand up.

How many wines per year would the prospective reviewer be obliged to work through? And how wide a range of wine descriptors are there before a reviewer starts to repeat themselves

It's a tough gig, but someone's got to do it. If you're serious about this, please PM me - I could be interested. I have a little experience with French, and quite a bit more with Australian pinot, and would also consider it an opportunity to learn on the job :D

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Tom,

If you're serious about this then you'd need to contact fellow Pinot producers and wine makers to get the following. Personally I'd have a chat to David Lloyd from Eldridge Estate in the Mornington. He was with GW on winorama for a while, and he is heavily involved with all the pinot activites associated with the Mornington promotions.

If he couldn't help them at least he'd be able to head you in the right direction.

Cheers
