I have an opportunity to pick up a few bottles of either De Bortoli Yarra Valley GS Reserve Shiraz, either the 1996 vintage (Jimmy Watson Trophy winner) or 1998, at a price of app. US$55. I would appreciate any opinions you knowledgeable Aussies would like to express about these wines. There don't appear to be any tasting notes for this wine posted to this website.
In particular, I'm wondering about how good this wine is at its price point (for perspective, it sells here for about the same price as recent vintages of Hare's Chase Barossa, Edelstone, Classic Clare, Stonewell, Balmoral), and its approximate longevity (esp. the '96 vintage which is already 8 yrs old). Might any of you have any experience with this wine?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Mel,
I've not tried any vintage of this, but James Halliday has, see his note for the 98 on Winepros:

Don't forget the Jimmy Watson is awarded for essentially a barrel sample, the blended release wine may or may not be of the same level.
