Grey is the new Brown...
Grey is the new Brown...
Looks like Brown is out of fashion at Beringer-Blass, the old Brown Label Classic Shiraz is now the Grey Label Classic Shiraz from 2002 vintage just released...
Cheers

RB, I always tot the "Grey" is a step up fr the "Brown" in the W.Blass hierachy with fruits sourced predominantly fr Langhorne Creek.
For export they have another version - "President's Selection" which is a step lower than their Grey....hmmm, very confusing.

The good news here is that nose-thumbing non-believers will forfeit the reference to it as 'Poo Label', though they'll no doubt make up a new equivalent.
I've enjoyed quite a few vintages, the 1999 being the last among the favourites - I wonder what the 2002 can deliver of its rather large potential?
Jakob, must say I've never heard that term applied to Brown label. I thought the 2001 release of BL was right up to standard and bought a 6-pack, after being less impressed with the 99 and 2000. No doubt I'll try the 2002 when it appears locally.

There is also a Winemaker's Reserve. Noted in Changi Duty Free. A white label and blended Barossa/ Limestone Coast fruit.
Interesting wine for the $20 ish price range. Martin may be more familar as probably created for the Asian market.
Brown Label is often quickly maligned IMHO; but I have found very solid and workman like in many vintages.
