Vale Bailey Carrodus

Post by dlo »

Yarra Yering's founder/owner/winemaker, Bailey Carrodus, passed away yesterday, September 19, 2008, after a short illness.

I never got to meet Bailey in person, but I spoke with him on the phone on a number of occasions over many years. A fascinating and brilliant man if somewhat eccentric at times. His wines were always full of interest, and like the man himself, certainly, never dull.

His passing marks a couple of bad days for global wine with Didier Dagueneau tragically killed in a plane crash earlier this week.

Very sad news.
Cheers,

David

I agree. One of Australia's great personalities has moved on. Let's raise a glass.....
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Very sad news. I met him at the YY cellar door a couple of years ago. A formidable intellect indeed - I never felt like more of a novice than when tasting some of the YY wines for the first time.
I hope YY continues on its own path - don't change the wines, or the labels, or anything, really...
A loss to wine lovers everywhere, that's for sure.

Such terrible news, I’m shocked. Visiting Yarra Yering was always a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Bailey was a fantastic winemaker and always willing to impact his extensive knowledge and generosity. His reds are amongst the finest in the country which age so well. Time toA night to crack a No1 in his honour I think.
