Wine enthusiats are susceptable to being completely ripped off and don't complain about it, infact we live by the words of the person causing it, yes Parker!
One mans words have caused Penfolds Grange '98 to triple in price in a couple of months and d'Arenbergs Dead Arm 2001 to increase from £19.99 to £45.00 - £60.00 in three weeks!!
Why do we continue to pay over the odds for wine which the winemakers struggle so hard to keep at reasonable price points?
P.S. I spoke to a Penfolds representative who told me anything over £100.00 for Grange is too much!
Blinded by words - Grange '98 / Dead Arm '01
Hi S
I just don't buy it. There are sooo many wines out there that are as good IMHO and much much less expensive. If everyone stopped paying the price, they wouldn't be able to get away with charging it. Who cares if you miss out on a few of the 'icons' which I don't consider d'Arenberg to be one? And if one can't help breaking down into tears over not having them then it's time to visit the psychotherapist. Think of the icons that are around the corner and now selling cheap as chips. I guess what I'm trying to say is: maybe it's good they become unaffordable as it forces us to look farther a field and broaden the horizons a little.
best,
