Locked topics

Hello,

I'm unfamiliar with some of the elements of the way the forum works. What does it mean when a topic is 'locked'?

Thanks

Stan,

A locked topic means that we can't post a reply to that topic, however the topic can still be viewed.

The Forum moderator can lock, and unlock, a topic at their discretion.

Thank you for the reply.

Why would the moderator lock the topic? What would motivate that?

Thank you.

Hello

As moderator, a few things.

One, a topic that has some valuable debate in it, hence no delete, but which is going nowhere, that is, going in circles.

Two, as sometimes happens, a topic brings a debate. This is good, but it keeps going, then starts to become personal, get into personalities. In this case its locked to keep the valuable debate, but locked before it gets into a personal slanging match.

Three, sometimes I'm requested to lock or delete a thread. In this case I look at the thread, and do one of three things, delete, lock, or leave going.

I hope this helps, and also please note, I've deleted very very few, and I think, only ever locked two.

Thanks Gavin,

That all makes sense. I'll have a look at the submissions in the locked topic and check out why it is locked!

All the best,

Stan
