When I first joined this forum several years ago I mentioned that I had become a partner in a small vineyard with some other “oldies” (three couples in our 60s) and that our aim was to make the great Australian Shiraz before departing this world. A number of members expressed interest and asked to be kept posted. Well it took time, but the wine – Brick Kiln Shiraz, from the McLaren Vale-- is alive and doing well

The 2004 was reviewed by the Wine Spectator in the Sept 2006 issue and they gave it 90 points.

Both the 2004 and 2003 vintages are sold out and we are now selling the 2005 vintage. As it has only recently been released, the 2005 has not yet been reviewed. However, we entered it in the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and it received a bronze medal; (together with 05 Dead Arm, 05 Coriole Lloyd and 05 Mt Edelstone). Wines that we “did better than” include Elderton Command, Stonewell, 'Ebenezer' Shiraz, Leasingham 'Classic Clare'

The 2004 was reviewed in the Sept 2006 edition with a rating of 90. (In the US for trade mark reasons Brick Kiln is called Brick Road Shiraz).

"A voluptuous, rich array of dark chocolate and bright red plum and blackberry fruit; fruit driven; minimal oak; carries 15% alcohol. Screwcap." RATING 92 points

"Excellent colour; perfect balance and integration of plummy fruit and oak on the bouquet; massively rich and highly flavoured; does show its alcohol (14.7%) but is not over-extracted; time needed. RATING 93 DRINK 2018"

Winestate Nov/Dec 2004 **** (four stars):

"An intense inky licorice and plum wine with a huge concentration of pepper and spice on both the nose and the palate. A lovely tannin structure creates a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. "Delicious" enthused one judge."

Max Allan in the Weekend Australian magazine (October 9-10 2004) commented:

"If you hanker for the big, ferruginous, blackstrap McLaren Vale reds of yore, you'll love this full-bodied, pitch purple shiraz with its tarry, oak-pumped bramble-jammy richness and sturdy tannic backbone."

I know things are tough for small producers, but I assume you know this site is run by a wine retailer, maybe you should contact Gavin with samples and see if he is interested in selling your wine rather than placing a free advert from which he gains no benefit.

Alternatively, there are a few people who publish independent wine reviews that could lead to sales if they think your wine is good enough, try www.torbwine.com or www.winorama.com.au with a sample bottle or two.

It might be a good idea to get the web site story and order form in sync too - the site says the 2004 vintage is sold out in Australia and that the 2005 vintage has just been released, but the order form still refers to Pre-ordering the 2004 vintage...
