I have been a yearly buyer (normally 2-3 bottles) of Dead Arm since 96.
You could imagine my rage to find out that all the 2001 was sold almost immediately. This was because Parker gave it super praise and a 98, and consequently d'arenberg therefore decided to allocate most its production to the US, leaving very little for us in Oz.
So it is with great delight to see at the recent Langtons auction that the 2001 Dead Arm was bid at $67, which would have been, pretty much the buy price.
To all those Dead Arm profiteers - suffer!
Pana,
Who is the sucker? I think it is you who is the sucker!
I got my 6 pack of 2001 Dead Arm for $60 per bottle.
Now that you got yours for $67 (plus 13.75% commission) which makes it $76.20 per bottle (plus freight & insurance) if any.
If I have known you are on the look out for 2001 Dead Arm, one of my supplier can ship them for you at $64 per bottle (within Sydney of course).
Cheers,
Steve

Steve
I am not the sucker, as I was not able to get some via the normal retailers.
My comment was simply that in the end Parker did not have any real influence on the price just the availability in Oz.
I am located in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, so if anybody knows where some is available, I would greatly appreciate it.

Pana,
Sorry if I have stepped on your toe(s) but your subject line is a bit too bold especially with the end bit 'suffer!'. I retract my words on calling you a sucker. My sincere apologies for not understanding your rage being vented out on the Americans and not the Australian winos.
I say you are quite wrong in you comment about Parker having an influence on the price in Australia. In the commercial world, the law of supply and demand always comes into play on the price.
I guess you are lucky with Langtons this time. You just wait until the supply of the 2001 Dead Arm has depleted somewhat in the US, the Yanks will be bidding crazy on the Australian based Auctions houses.
Right now, the most retail outlets in the US are selling the 2001 Dead Arm for more than US$60. Knowing the American culture that someone who want to 'show his/her social status', there is no better way to obtain an OZ wine which has an Iconised wine writer rating of 98.
It is considerably cheaper than the 2000 Bordeaux of a similar 98 rating, hence to an American, it is value for money.
Cheers,
Steve
