St Henri 2001 and 2002

Post by Partagas »

What are your opinions on the comparison of the 2001 and 2002 vintages of St Henri Shiraz? Some say 01 some 02. I have a few of both but haven't tried yet. Currious to here from those that have tried either or both.

C'mon Partagas, some attention to the spelling and grammar, please.

I prefer the 01 personally, think it has more complexity and a better texture - more going on

Bought the 01, was prepared to buy the 02 but didnt

I can still get the 1999 and 2001.

I was assuming the 99 was superior to the 2001 so was planning on getting that when they have their annual 20% off sale in June.

Spelling and Gramma

Post by Partagas »

Gee, my apologies Gregoire. I will check all spelling and gramma with complete and full attention next time. Don’t know what came over me. It must be that I posted this at work and was in a rush. Please come and inspect all my future postings and correct any errors that I might embarrassingly make.

Thanks again Gergorie. Doohhhhhhhhh. Spelling again.

And now back to the wine not whine.......

I did the 98 and 01 side by side at a tasting club I run two weeks ago. The 98 was slightly more complex but the 01 seemed to be more fruit forward. We sold every bottle of the 01 in the store after the tasting so everyone thought it was great!! The 98 was from my cellar and still exactly (to the penny) the same price as the 01. ($46.00 Canadian). For a cellaring wine it is hard to do much better for the price. Rick

My problem with St Henri is all about VFM....At $35 to $40 it was an annual "must buy" of 4 to 6 bottles up until 2000...At $57 I bought 2 of the 2001 and am unlikely to buy the 2002.

IMO it's an iconic under $40 wine but not a $60 wine.
