Just a whisker away from being an absolute table lifter. I cannot believe this is 15 years old! Still pale gold in the glass, limes, apricot, and flowers waft upwards. Take a sip and this is just heaven. This is fresh and zesty after all this time. A touch of honeyand dried herbs stirred into some breakfast marmalade. Theres a tiny bit of kero whch betrays it stage of development, a little residual sugar (but only a little), its luscious and full flavoured, moderately intense, and beautifully balanced. 94/100, perhaps more if it had a touchmore intensity, perhaps it did in its recent past.
cheers

TN: Hugel Riesling 1990 Vendage Tardive
Hi Wizz
I've been trying to get my hands on this wine. No chance - all have been snapped up. I reckon it's a lovely wine. Some facts about the unpopularity of Riesling. Doing good Riesling is like walking a tightrope to keep in balance - too much residual sugar you get a cloying sweet wine and too little of it, you end up with acid water. Riesling do not thrive on all soil and climatic conditions as much as other varietals. It prefers little intervention and tricks by the makers and hates heavy oaking. Few cellarmasters would take on that tightrope feat.
Some good ones: Gunderloch Jean Baptize, Donnhoff, Dr. Loosen.
