Graham,

Hope this doesn't put a dampner on the occasion....

I've just discontinued my membership / purchasing of Killerby wines after 5 or more years, just too much vintage variation to buy regularly.

I sent the last case back after trying a bottle (2001 Cabernet), pretty boring wine. Should have done the same with the 98 cabernet, sold most of it at auction (sorry to whoever bought it). :(
Cheers

A few years ago, Killerby put an advert in the Financial Review stating the 94points their Cabernet had received courtesy of Halliday. A trial bottle of the wine offered at around 25 dollars including postage. Only available at cellar door or limited retail distribution.

Why not? Called to order a bottle and received a hard sell on a mixed case. It was artificial and I awaited the steak knives to be thrown in. To get the lady off the phone I excused myself but received 3 calls over the next few days(thanks to caller ID) trying similar.

I really wanted to try that wine, Killerby 99 or 98 cabernet, but baulk at the sight of their wines due amatuerish "telemarketing".

Jamie,

The 99 cabernet is pretty good (I think that's the JH 94 pointer), the batch of 98 I got was pretty bad. If you want to try a 99 cab that badly I can spare one of mine.

In good vintages the vpr is Ok, in off vintages it's not worth the bother. Their web site is pretty amateurish too.

I had no hassles returning the final case, they sent a pre-paid consignment note without any fuss after I said I just didn't like the wine.
Cheers

Jamie,

I also bought the single 1998 Killerby C/S and was hounded no end to join their wine club etc etc which I declined.

The crunch really came when I lost my job and they kept ringing and I told them of my changed circumstances and there was no way I could even entertain the thought. They said they would call back in 6 months or so hoping that things were looking up for me!

Well, I moved to Vic from NSW and haven't heard from them since! Pretty extreme, but it worked!
Ciao,

michaelw

You know it makes sense!
