Any notes on Brands of Coonawarra latest offering?

Post by MartinC »

Folks,

Tonite, I'll be off to a Brand's winemaker dinner featuring their entire range.
I've enjoyed their reg. Cab 98/99 - my QPR vote from Coonawarra. The Res.Merlot was excellent too.
Never had any Patrons & Stentiford. Any comments will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
MC

Martin,

I had the '98 Stentiford a year or so back and it was one of the best wines tasted for the year.
I have a few bottles left so I will be interested to hear what you think. They definitely will improve with some time in the cellar though.
Cheers

I dont have my notes handy, but I have had the 1999 Patrons and Stentiforths a couple of times. They are both crackers, at least as good as the 98s (a big call, I know).

OK folks, reporting on the Brand's event. The winemaker was not present, instead we had MrJohn Rogers, a wine-technologist(???) the marketing honcho of McWilliam. McWilliam is the 6th largest producer in volume & 5th in value in AUS.

Brands Chard.2002 - Crisp & lively a nice match with the mushsroom gateau.

Brand Cabernet 2000 - A very nice Coon's Cab under $20. Good QPR.

Brand's Patron Rsv.1999 - Classy cedar nose. Lush with ample body weight, depth of flavour and finish long. Excellent

Brand's Stentiford Rsv.1997 - In the shadow of the Patron. This wine is a sprinter not a stayer, good upfront but no staying power.. Everything in moderation.
