Magpie Estate The Malcolm 1999

Post by Festival »

Hi,

It seems like a tasting note on The Malcolm 1999 is as hard to find as the wine. Can anyone help out.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I am not surprised, the wine is bloody hard to find cause they made stuff all of it. If I remember correctly, that was the last year it was made too; the vineyard was just not productive enough so it was replanted.

Thanks Ric,

That's interesting. Do you know of any other rare wines that have gone this way ie vines not being productive enough, so production stopped?

I've seen tasting notes for the 1996 Malcolm. Just wondered how this compared to the 1999.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I have tried the 94, 95 and 98; they are all stunning wines. Off the top of my head, I can't think of other wines that have gone the same way although the replanting situation is not exactly unknown.

In this case, it was a tiny vineyard and the vines became totally unproductive, the last vintage yielded about 120 cases. No wonder they had to replant.
Cheers
