Tns or impressions on Lindemans St. Georges Cabernet '98

Post by Mishy »

There was a huge order of this wine that recently entered our system in British Columbia for 46C$ a bottle. In the past I've enjoyed this wine, but I cannot recall tasting this vintage.
As I've suggested, I am very keen on stocking up my Aussie wine collection for my cellar, agable wines are my preference.
Does anyone have TNs or cellaring advice for this wine in this vintage ?
Cheers,
Mishy

From my trip report on http://www.torbwine.com and listed in the tasting notes section.

Lindemans 1998 St George is almost purple in colour with a bright hue. On the palate the wine shows sweet cassis with a sour cherry finish and a nose that is classically Coonawarra Cabernet. In terms of structure, the wine is a well balanced with lots of mouth puckering tannins and persistent but distinct fruit. It has ample body weight, supple consistency, a solid layered structure and a refined complexity leading to a long finish that is the quintessential Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Rated as Excellent with *** for value and worth purchasing if you can find it on special for less than $40. It should peak around about 2006 and was my choice of the Trio.
Cheers

Mishy, i had this at the Coonawarra Barrel tasting a month or two ago. I also liked it. Next to some very ripe 2001's it showed as fairly restrained more red fruits than cassis, but I thought well structured and bult to take some ageing. Its pricing is hard to justify here in Oz though, with Majella, Balnaves, Zema, etc all significantly cheaper.

cheers

Andrew
