Hi all,
I had a bottle of this thrown in with a recent large purchase. I understand that 1995 wasn't a particularly good vintage - but would appreciate any views on the wine generally. I recall it retailed in the shop for about $38.
I have some friends coming over for dinner on Saturday night. They appreciate a good red. They like early Cambells from the Rutherglen - they have a large collection of pre-1998 wines from Campbells.
We'll also be having some Warrabilla (we're comparing Warrabilla / Campbell's Durifs - no competition from my perspective, and TORB's judging by recent notes). However, I am a bit short on aged wine and was wondering whether this might suit. Appreciate your views. I'd be serving it with Wagyu beef, a red wine/quince paste sauce on soft polenta.
Regards,
Allan
d'Arenberg 1995 The Old Vine Shiraz - TN??
Thanks Kieran. Didn't want to chance it with guests so had it last night at Oscillating Wildly with Kangaroo Kefta and Salt-Crusted Roasted Lamb Loin - Wine was a bit ordinary - some red fruit on the nose which didn't carry solidly through to the palate, tannins over the top and very powdery, a thin textured wine. Not our cup of tea.
Regards,
Allan

Thanks will keep in mind when we visit OW.
FYI: just posted some notes from last night (Grappa) on the food section.
Also went out to Il Piave in Balmain on wednesday (wedding anniversary) will post some thoughts later on the food forum. IMO it has slackened off slightly with the homemade patsa...
