2003 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz – 14%
Ripe fruitcake/Shiraz fruit, blackberries, dark cherries, chocolate with a gamut of sweet spices, musk and cloves. These flavours freely fill the palate sumptuously with ample structure to bridle the ripe fruit. Intense, smooth, soft with a very little glycerine feel. Good depth. Sweet caramel and mocha oak are evident but well-judged. There is some nuttiness. Soft, very ripe tannins assist the wine on the middle and back palate. These tannins also have a fine aspect to their credit, especially after some breathing. Very easy drinking. Length is excellent and there is enough acid and tannin under the layers of pleasure for the wine to improve over the next 3 years when it will begin its peak drinking window. No doubt a table pleasing wine with an extra level of class. 17.6/20, 91/100.
