Post by fzxbeetle »

I am newbie in wine and i am doing a project to evaluate three company:
Dromana estate Ltd http://www.dromanaestate.com.au/
McGuigan Simeon wines LTD http://www.mcguiganwines.com.au/home.html
Australian wine holding http://www.awl.com.au

I am doing non-financial evaluation. I want to measure any aspect of these three company.

The first problem is which company has a higher reputation in their wine brand and quality.

I am not an English native speaker(poor English), Any one can give me some
help and hints? Thank you all guys!

Hi fzxbeetle - welcome to the forum!
I'm guessing you're doing some kind of commerce/business related course, so it's not 100% clear what kind of evaluation/information you're looking at, if not financial.
Particularly as one, or maybe two, of the companies you've mentioned exist primarily as financial enterprises (ie main focus is on making money rather than making good wine)
In awl.com.au's case, for example, in their own words:

[from website] Australian Wine Holdings Limited (ASX code: AWL) mission is:

"To build a financially strong, brand focused Australian wine enterprise that provides a sustainable platform for growth and reward for shareholders, customers, suppliers and staff."

The brands they represent may well be quality wines (personally I haven't tried any) but they are certainly not household names (outside of WA at least) and do not have any significant presence on the secondary wine market.
Similarly for McGuigan Wines.
Dromana, on the other hand, has a good track record and makes a fair range of quality wine (see James Halliday's Wine Companion 2005 & The Australian Wine Annual for more detail) Even here, though, they are not household names (outside Victoria) and certainly not at the forefront of Australian wine, nationally or internationally.
By and large, those on this forum are more into drinking good plonk & talking about it than into the corporate/business side of wine companies - you might get the sort of info you're after by contacting the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (www.awbc.com.au) and similar bodies.
