I was thinking some elegant, aged Victorians -but they never show well against monster South Aussies.

I think this depends a bit on where we're going and how many people are confirmed - I think the last magnum theme at Cos there was quite a bit left over. Also are we going for a particular theme, or a range of wines to match the food (which again depends on the venue).

Jamie, let's not theme it, just bring a bloody good and interesting bottle or two.
Mark, where's this being held (what I really mean is have you done anything about a venue and price yet) or did you want me to orgynise it at headquarters - The Sauce?

Steve,
Agree with the 'bloody good and interesting bottle' theme...
Although I really like the Sauce, it costs me (and others who live on the more interesting sides of town) an arm and a leg to taxi it there, I was thinking of the Sailmaster at North Haven actually

Sorry Jamie, I was winding up Steve about North Haven, its at the far end of Port Adelaide and along way away for a number of diners
Cos in Leigh St. is confirmed, fixed price with a fixed menu to include corkage etc. Last time it was around $50 per head and the food was excellent.
I was thinking I might bring a 1991 Magnum of Rockford basket press shiraz and something else as a backup.
Can I have numbers soon please...

Okay - so Mark & Symonne are bringing the Rocky 1.5L.
Last night Steve told me there aren't the numbers to do a full-on magnum night, so what else are we going to bring?
I was thinking of a 1990 St Henri (which I'll have to dig out of the bottom of the cellar), but if anyone wants bubbles to start I could bring a 1991 Leasingham Classic Clare Sparkling Shiraz instead.
Cheers

Actually Ian, if you don't mind I was planning on also bringing a bottle of 1993 BVE E&E Sparkling which has matured ionto a very nice sparkling shiraz.
You could bring both the St Henri and the Leasingham if you wanted

I think one bottle of S/S will probably be enough, so I'll stick with the 1990 St Henri (cork withstanding).
I know Craig's bringing a 1998 Reschke Empyren, so what's everyone else taking. I think we want to get a good range of wines again, and of course we need a token white and a camera to try and catch Steve out!
Cheers

I've got $33.33 ready for a big 250ml of it!
I was actually wondering if it was a good idea to have the Johann Georg at this dinner, and maybe that Mark should save it for another occasion?
It looks like rest of the wines could be significantly older, which could make the wine stick out like a sore thumb.
It also depends on the numbers going - if it ends up to be only 8-10 people there could be a lot of wine even without the Johann. The last thing we'd want to do is waste it.
Cheers

No need to worry about it Ian as I have you down as a non-JG-participant as you have not replied to my emails and said that you want to try any
That was me for the last 2 guests.
The system logged me out for some reason.
Ian,
Troy Kalleske specifically made this bottle available for us to try and I think it might be a bit rude if we didn't open it in the spirit it was intended for

Ian, I totally agree with your point of view.
I don't think you should spoil the host of older classics by trying the Johann Georg.
There shouldn't be any go to waste either, Mark I'll pay for and take home any that's left in the bottle.
Looking forward to a great night guys.
