WR: Pass The Plonk

A media release from my old stomping grounds notes that “Many of the slang words that make Australian English unique — including Aussie — come from war, according to Dr Bruce Moore, the Director of the Australian National Dictionary Centre, based at The Australian National University.”

Among the words is plonk, which is described as a common Australian slang term for wine that is thought to have gained currency during the First World War and is probably a corruption of the French ‘blanc’ as in vin blanc, or white wine.

Now I know that a certain someone heads up his site with the words "Where nothing is taken seriously except possibly the good plonk". But he never even mentions white wines! OK Ric explain yourself!

Now if you have a look here you will see that accoring to this slang dictionary definition, it means "is that it is an acronym for "Person with Little Or No Knowledge". And in this situation that's most apt as it applies to you, you plonker you!

Ric, I think by the time the Plonkers make their way down from Darwin to your cellar they will have grown some hair. The question is whether it will still be green? And whether they do have a taste for "good plonk"?
