TN: 2003 Kalleske Old Vine Grenache
TN: 2003 Kalleske Old Vine Grenache
A dark midnight purple with a glorious nose of blackberries, black cherry, raspberry, herbs and hints of white pepper. A rich, dense, complex palate with silky tannins. crushed rasberry and crushed blackcurrant that wash across the palate with an underlying core of sage and rosemary. An absolutely sensational wine, better than the 2002.
Cheers

Thanks for the tasting note Mark. Tried both at cellar door with Troy and agree with your note on the 2003. What I like about this wine is it doesn't leave you with that sickly sweet taste as some Grenache wines do, even considering the alcohol % (up around 16% from memory).
Do you have any views on drinking windows for both vintages?
Thanks
AJ

Both vintages will be long lived but drink well now. I'm targeting mine for about 2009/10.
The best Grenache do have a core of sweet fruit but not candy sweet like the poorer examples which I hate. Check out my notes on the Blacktongues Grenache tasting for what I thought really serious examples.
