st petes 02
st petes 02
i know, i know... i'm still on the case (no pun intended)!!
st petes 02... $55 p/bot for 3 max....rip-off??... considering many have sold in the $40's price range.
is it going to be one of the great vintages... or just clever PR Hype??
Opinions sought...
many thanks

Christo,
I really don't understand your beef with Seppelt's. There are many wineries that charge more for purchases from cellar door than retailers do, for wines that have no where near as crazy as the hype that has enveloped the 02 St Peter's. I just think the rarity of this wine coupled with the glowing reports that have unfairly put the spotlight on them. For example, the last time I was at Magill Estate, they were asking for $70 for 1999 St. Henri. Hell, I got my 1999's a few weeks later for $50 a bottle. Now, what do you think about Penfold's? And what about wineries that up their prices by a few dollar each year? Are they ripping you off too? Sheesh...
Another thing you might like to note is that while retailers are given a RRP, they might well be charging less than that. At CD, they have to charge at the RRP that they recommend to retailers.

"You are what u drink!"
Hi Christo,
I was lucky enough to taste the St Peters 02 at WineAus and thought it was delicious. This week I took the plunge and bought it.
Like many others, I've been anticipating its release and frowned at the hype and low yields which I knew would be factored into the release price
re: value or being ripped off - only you can decide that.
Please note that I only have limited experience with St Peters - have only been buying from 1996 when it was known as Seppelt Great Western. IMHO, it was worth the price.
Good luck,
Vickie

In comparison how many cases of the 2002 were made?
many thanks
christo
500 cases
btw the 2001 St Peters was released at the same price at CD last December as the 2002 is this year, no price rise for the trophy winning/reduced production wine.

Not quite true.
I am sitting looking at a Seppelt pricelist as I type.
the 2001 St Peters had a RRP of $46.50
the 2002 St Peters has a RRP of $51.90.
But then I am not complaining as I think the wine is good value for money when compared to some of the stuff doing the rounds for more than 5 times the price.

Mea culpa, I was looking at a Drives Club Mailer from last December (that I didn't take up) which showed the $46.50 price I assumed this the buy price to members.
BTW another online retailer is showing the RRP of the 2001 as being $55.34 so I'll now edit my or8iginal post to say that and use that for the discussion instead.
and in any case I agree on the value for money in the marketplace
