I woke up to the terrible news this morning that former Crowded House drummer Paul Hester appears to have taken his own life.
Paul was always the most human face of the group, whose sensitivity, wicked humour and wacky antics not only was the glue that held the group together, but also won a large audience off-stage. Paul will be missed more than he could ever imagine.
"There's a hole in the river,
Where my memory lies.
From the land of the living,
To the air and sky."
(Crowded House 1985)

Forget about goodness and mercy, they're gone.
N4sir and Grant,
I second your opinions. Crowded House was a truly remarkable group which didn't churn out mindless garbage, but did produce thoughtful lyrics which often made you think deep and hard if you took a little time and were that way inclined; and Paul Hester was a wonderful and important part of that group.
I never would have guessed that he would leave this mortal coil in that way, but one never knows what turmoil lies under another's skin.
I, too, felt much sadness when heard the news.
