my quaffing dozen

Hello People...

I will coming down to Australia next week for a short holiday. Although I will be doing abit of cellar door tasting, I've also heard that prices at cellar doors tend to be significantly more expensive than internet retailers.... so, I have decided to do myself a favour and order a dozen of things I would like to try to be delivered to the apartment I will be staying at while I am in Australia. That way, I get to drink stuff from all over Oz, pay reasonable prices, and I can then go check out the tiny boutique wineries rather than the renowned ones. Boy am I smart! :roll:

Well, the list looks something like this, considerations being budget and variety :

I am trying my best not to have too many shiraz or shiraz dominant wines for my taxed and tired palate. Would appreciate any comments and suggestions for the list.... cheers and thanks!

Benny,

It is generally true that CD prices will be more than (mixed) case prices from the better e-tailers, so your buying strategy is sound. It's nice to reward a good CD experience with the odd purchase though, there may only be a few dollars in it.

I won't comment on the whites, the reds look Ok, but I'd drop the Jamieson's Run WR reserve and pick something like the Balnaves Coonawarra Cab 2001 or Majella Coonawara Cabernet at about the same price instead. The JR is cheap (just under $20) at one chain, but not necessarily at the one I'm guessing you have picked this mix from.

Agree with you regarding odd purchases at cellar doors, and I am quite sure that I will be lulled into some purchases there, which is why the quaffing dozen is not a quaffing two dozens.... being a short holiday, I do not relish the prospect of having 3 dozens of wines to cart back at the end of the trip.... as happened not too long ago when I was young and impressionable.
