1998 TyrrellÂ’s Belford Reserve Semillon

Post by Adair »

1998 Tyrrell’s Belford Reserve Semillon – Hunter Valley, NSW

Lanolin, lemon and butter. Very intense and austere with great acid structure. Some smooth, toasty development is starting to show but there is no honey yet. This is a very powerful baby that will shine greatly over the next decade. This could be one of the great Hunter Semillons. 18.3/20. $30.

Mike,

I actually missed out on the 1997, and am slightly annoyed that I did. Those I have spoken to praised it but their comments made me feel that the 1998 would be longer living andthe greater wine with time. The 1997 being more approachable now.

On the subject, a reliable little birdie told me that Tyrrell's believes the 1999 of this Belford Reserve line will be the best of the lot. We will see.
