Lanson n/v
Lindemans HR semillon 1991: drinking at or close to its peak it shows why aged HR semillon is one of the great Oz treats which all too few will appreciate. A very dry style to contrast with the expectations of those who have seen Oz rieslings (even with age)
Savaterre chardonnay 2002 : starting to show its stuff and expect to drink over the next 5 years. Good hint of nougat and cashew without veeing into torrone sweetness and lovely acidity on the back which augurs well for the next 2-3 years development. Beautiful full-bodied wine - If not an absolute star, it is already in the top half dozen chardonnays in the country and the vineyaard shows great potential
Mitchelton Print shiraz 1990: this was the vintage from which Mitchelton has gone from strength to strength, and it is drinking superbly with some lushness and fruit but not the OTT style of Barossa.
Penfolds St henri shiraz 1990: on this bottle's showing (the first of my 1990 St Henris) it will never reach the heights of 1986, but it is a wonderful wine and entering a drinking window now (which should hold for about a decade!!) but will be reviewed on tasting another bottle...no overt oak and very good ripe fruit with some hints of blackberry
Hollicks Ravenswood CS 1990: cedar & structure with a wine at it s peak this is one of the really good Coonawarra CS - even if it is not as good (or destined to be as long-lived) as the 1991
Ch coutet sauternes 1981: for a good but not great vintage this wine is on song now and drinking at its peak and immensely enjoyable
Ch Rieussec sauternes 1981 usually more reliable than the Coutet, the Rieussec lacked the power and potency on this occasion to match it. Drink up any remaining
Pedro Xininez solera Morla : for those who were still sitting another bottle just slid down as this PX is unctuous in its quality and deceptively easy to drink!
