1998 Grange & Singapore
1998 Grange & Singapore
Hello,
Does anyone know if the 1998 Grange is still available in Singapore and, if so, whether it is cheaper to buy it there?
If it is cheaper, and I think I remember a post about it some time ago, could anyone give me details about where/which shops I should contact?
I have a friend who is in Singapore on business who is willing to bring a few back in for me so I though it could be a good time to capitalise on his situation. When I say capitalise, I mean to buy a few bottles, drink one and cellar a few, or one.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Adair

Adair,
A guy fr Singapore offered me @S$500 p/b. hence the savings is not much.
I got 2doz fr UK @ 1775Pounds p/doz 2 mths ago and another 2 more doz @ 1695Pounds recently for a client. The brokers in UK do not sell odd bts.
PM me if u want the contacts.

Hello MartinC and thanks for your reply.
If I am right, 1 Australian dollar buys 1.2 Singapore dollars, so that $S 500 costs me about $AUS 416. Maybe worth it.
Now 70 pounds per bottle of 1998 Grange is a great deal however, I don't think my friend could fit 2 dozen Grange in his carry bags.
I will give you a PM.

Not sure where you are arriving from but if not from Australia the Duty Free shop in the Terminal (non-SQ) has some good finds. The Cullen's Diana Madeline 2001 for about 80 Aussie the standout. Clarendon Hills Piggott shiraz and Old Vine Grenache and others. No great bargains with the French. Some Wolf Blass export labels if that your cup of tea!
In Marina Mall the local supermarket has extensive wine collections but the mark up in the 30% vicinity.

Gday Alan
Duty Free will be cheaper for your return to HK.
I hope to be joining you in HK soon. Just had first interview for a very good job in my circumstances.
Watsons had a great promotion recently in HK. Discounts on boutique Aussie wines. Buying by the dozen even better. Nepenthe, Voyager, Katnook etc.
The ferry to Macau and a return with good Portugese wines sometimes worth the trip from HK.

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for the advise and in fact most of the duty free shop in Australia is still selling the 97 vintage, and the one I bought my 98, which bottled in 99, only got five dozens for sell and all sold in three weeks.
Since I travel to Australia every month, so it is rare for me to buy Australian wine in Hong Kong.

Jacques,
The wine broker is Bordeaux Index in UK. I just bought another 3doz fr him @1775Quids p/doz. My client has indicated to me to take whatever qty that comes along.
Cheers,
MC
