Help with St Hallett wines...

I've recently pickup two bottles of St Hallett Shiraz which I cannot categorically identify. Both were purchased in the UK for £10 and are labelled "Barossa Shiraz". On St Hallett's website there is no reference (that I've found!) to this label, only their regular range which is widely available in many wine merchants and super markets and includes the GameKeeper's Reserve, Faith, Blackwell and Old Block.

Can anyone shed some light on what it is I have? I have a 2000 bottling (Bordeaux shaped bottle) and the 2001 (Burgundy shaped bottle). I know for a fact that they are not Faith or GameKeeper's Reserve. Could it be Old Block? The shop I purchased these wines from was not very helpful...

Any help is much appreciated.

This is a bit strange. I would say that it's definitely not the Old Block, which is labelled clearly as such and would probably be three times the price you paid in the UK (possible more?). If it is just labelled "Barossa Shiraz", then perhaps it's St Hallett's version of an export cleanskin? If you know your wine, you could always compare tasting notes with those of the St Hallett range to reduce and eliminate your choices.

I did a quick Winesearcher trawl. It seems Tesco have their own label £5.69 a bottle - their notes below:

It might the 'Third Century'.

Does it say Third Century above Barossa Shiraz?

Sincerely doubt that Old Block is 10 quid anywhere in the world. Sounds like an export-only label to me.

Hi there,
in my hot little hand is a bottle of the 2000 'Third Century' Shiraz. If your Lot number is L2184 or thereabouts (look on the bottle-it should be about 12 mm from the bottom, and you need to get the light just right).If it isn't this wine then it could really only be a 'South Australian Shiraz" which is an export label.n.b Third Century is usuall only a cellar door wine, so not sure if any went overseas.
