The Seppelt miracle

Post by 707 »

Well we've all been wondering how Seppelt not only got out of the grave but took to tap dancing in recent times. A lot of stuff has been theorised but if you want the real story then check out the just released February edition of Winefront Monthly, another excellent edition.

For those that don't yet subscribe, do yourself a favour, it'll be the best money you spend in wine each year.

Agreed Steve. Over 150 wines reviewed in this month's edition, plus a few long articles. Liked the De Bortoli article too, winefront keeps making me look at wineries slightly differently, and I now love the sound of Steve Webber, he sounds right down to earth (it is good that winefront kept his swearing in too, made it sound real). Winefront is damn good value for money (I keep telling Campbell his rates are too cheap, I don't know how he eats, and he replies to me at bizarre times of the night, so I know he puts in long hours on it). The quote of this edition was from Arthur O'Connor at Seppelt: "There is no avoiding it: to get amazing vibrancy in your wine at 12 Baume, you have to have a really good vineyard and probably a really good region too – you can cover a lot of the ills of your vineyard by pressing on and picking it at 14, but it’ll never be as good as a great vineyard picked at 12." My experience of some of the great Australian wines of the past is that they often have great ripeness at often very low alcohols, and I have always wondered how they used to do it. O'Connor has gone part way to explaining it.

If you love wine, and you do no subscribe to winefront, you're crazy.

(PS: I'm not paid by winefront, and I don't mind a bit of Warrabilla high alcohol action either. Some nights do, some nights don't).

No bloody point in me recommending it, I have just paid for a renewal of my subscription.

Its a bloody good read, I read it on the plan to SA yesterday and after torbwine (which is free) the best value around. It is very unusual to have somone who is a good writer that actually has a reasonable professional palate; most are either writers or winetasters, here we have two in one and that is what makes Campbell unique.

What I loved most about this edition was that I picked up one typo.  Which only goes to prove none of us is perfect.

I notice that whilst you're on holidays TORB, you still arise before first light. But then again you're no longer staying at Davis' McLaren Vale Hilton, you're now amongst the chooks at the Davis' Blewitt Springs farm.

Watch out for those savage mutts, one of the little b's bit me last time I visited. I was tempted to launch him off my boot into mid vineyard!

I'm just about to subscribe.

Just one question. If I subscribe now do I get access to all the back issues?

Whoops - should have just read the homepage.

Ignore that last question.

Hi Ratcatcher,

Would love you to subscribe.

And you don't get access to all the back editions, simply because I've never thought it was fair to those who've subscribed from the start - if someone subscribed in five year's time and then asked for all the back editions, it doesn't seem fair on those who've paid their money each and every year, if that makes sense. However, when you subscribe I do send through a swag of editions from the past six months, and I do offer a special deal on all the back editions - just email me and we can discuss.

By the way, many thanks for the compliments above - always extremely appreciated.

cheers folks,

Campbvell.

Just got around to reading the latest edition, top notch material. I now rate winefront's value for money as "Outstanding", on the verge of exceptional. This edition was on time too, miracle of miracles. :D
