The bottle had been open for at least a year and a large amount of sediment was evident in the base of the bottle. I decanted it carefully into my glass. The colour is a magnificently brilliant amber (as in the stone) with obviously green edge. The nose offers notes of dried orange peel and dried muscatels over walnut, blanched almonds, carob chocolate and old leather. The palate is medium sweet with a lovely balanced mouthfeel- soft texture accented by very well balanced acidity. Flavours of triple sec and caramelised orange transform into a walnut and carob chocolate aftertaste. Excellent strong but balanced rancio character. Clean long finish- nutty, dry with acid.
I was amazed that this sherry had not diminished even after extended time in a nearly empty bottle. Wish I had bought more of these at the time. Excellent value at $30 or so I paid for it. I only hope the mainstream continue to neglect the fortified market.
Does anyone know if this is still available anywhere
