Just curious. The movie Sideways is all about Pinot and Syrah. Yet, the region in question would also (maybe more so) be all about Chardonnay, not to mention Zin. And yet Chardonnay and Zin didn't even rate a mention in the movie. Wonder why. Could it be a conscious marketing thing to get people thinking "Pinot and Syrah" when they think about California wine country?

The movie is based on the book of the same name by Rex Pickett. I don't believe there is any attempt at marketing wine in the movie. (Although the movie is credited with increasing Pinot Noir sales.) Its a black comedy with wine being the vehicle that takes Miles and Jack from one personal relationship wreck to another during their week in the wine country. Its true that chardonnay is one of the better wine grapes in that area, or it was the only time I visited (way back in the early ‘90s). Back then places like Byron made some pretty reasonable examples, but Pinot seems to have shone in more recent times.
