TN: Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz 2015

Post by Waiters Friend »

Decanted about an hour before service. Crimson in the glass.

Dark plums, blueberry, white pepper, and spices (cloves, maybe a little five-spice) on the nose. The palate is silky without being heavily textured, and the blue fruits sit on top of good supporting acid and fine but drying tannins. The wine is medium bodied, and has a persistent finish.

While reasonabky balanced, I get the feeling I am drinking this at least 2 years too young. No rush on this one.

Cheers

Great note Allan, thank you. Have a few stashed away, so good to hear they are travelling well and need some more time.

Decanted about 90 minutes before service. Crimson colour - very little change over time.

The nose has (not surprisingly) altered in the last three years, but remains quite pronounced. There's licorice and vanilla, with developed blue and black fruits, and the spices have turned into nutmeg and savoury characters.

The palate by comparison now seems a little flat - fruit is diminshed, and acid is dominating slightly. There's fine but grippy tannins, and the finish is a ;little astringent.

Three year ago I said "I am drinking this at least 2 years too young. No rush on this one". My opinion has changed, and we may have missed the peak.

Cheers

The Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz is such a bargain wine. They age superbly. The 2010 is drinking superbly at the moment.
Life is too short to drink rubbish wine.

An update on last week's tasting note.

We opened another bottle of this tonight, and it's not as evolved as last week's bottle. There's more fruit and less savoury development. It's much more in balance. This bottle is probably at its peak, not past it.

It's interesting that two bottles of the same wine, from the same six pack and under screwcap, stored side by side in airconditioned bliss, can look different.

One more bottle remains!
