The first bottle of a six pack bought in the last year untasted, on the basis of the excellent 2012 vintage.
Purple black in colour, and quite dense. Crimson rim. Full and rich nose with mocha, blackberry, mulberry, dark plums, bay leaf, rubbed tobacco, and cinnamon.
The palate is medium to full bodied, but not overblown - the fruit carries well over the tongue, and the tannins are fine but grippy. Acid provides freshness and a little tartness. Long and full finish and will only improve with at least another five years.
I think 2016 was a pretty good vintage in McLaren Vale, from what I have seen over the past 3 years. Time to stock up a little more?
Cheers
Allan

Third bottle of the six pack referred to previously.
Crimson in colour. The nose is not as primary as it was four years ago, and the fruits have developed somewhat. There's still blackberry, mulberry and dark plums, and these are accompanied by mocha and cedar, with bay leaf, a little menthol, and savoury notes.
The palate is also showing the balance between primary fruits and secondary characters. Acid is still slightly tart, and tannins are in check. Finish is long and slightly hot.
No doubt this still has time ahead it - it's just a matter of how much you prefer primary fruits to secondary development.
Cheers

Bought a couple of 2014s of this when we stopped into the winery on the way back from Kangaroo Island earlier this year. Lovely site, generous tasting facilities and the restaurant looks really nice, though sadly we didn't have time to eat.

Hi WAwineguy. Please post some notes on the 2014 when you open one. I'd be keen to see how it's travelling at 10 years.
Cheers
