Info request: 1990 Peter Lehmann Cab/Malbec

Anyone come across this wine before? Could it be a forerunner of the Mentor? Worth a punt at £19 (c. $50)?

Any info welcome

Ian, is this the one with a black label and gold (and possibly red) border lines? Possibly Cellar Reserve on the label? A bit like Stonewell labels?
The Cellar Reseves were Cab/Malbec/merlot/Shiraz blends, I think you may be right about being the predecessor to Mentor.

I remember these as being very nice wines, 89 and 90 are recorded in my cellar database, I drank my last in 2000/2001 and they were holding Ok then, but cellaring would have to be good for them to be in good condition now.

Just checked a bit closer, I did also buy 6 of a 90 Cellar Reserve Cab-Malbec, also drank the last one in 2000, it was in fine condition with a few years ahead of it then.

AUD50 may be a bit steep, the Cellar reserves sold for $16 on release in about 93/94.
Cheers
Brian
Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Brian
Many thanks for digging this info out.
As it's via a merchants list on the web, I haven't got anything else to go on. I guess there's a bit too much gamble - though might instead go for Lindemans Limestone Ridge 91 at £14 (c. AUS$35-40). They've also got '86 St George at £17 (c. AUS$45), but again that might be a bit of a gamble.

thanks again

Ian
