TN: Plantagenet Shiraz 2013

5 years ago, we held a vertical tasting of Plantagenet Shiraz. http://forum.auswine.club/viewtopic.php?p=1 ... 13#p142881. This was the youngest wine of the tasting, and below was the note at the time.

Plantagenet Shiraz 2013: 13.5% alc. Purple / crimson in colour. The nose opens with dark cherries and black plums. There’s white pepper, menthol, oregano, and dusty vanillin oak. One taster referred to “Masterfoods Italian Herbs”. The palate shows fresh cherry and plum fruit, a bit of tar, and there’s plenty of acid. It’s a medium bodied wine with integrated tannins leading to a medium to long finish.

Five years on, and this wine has mellowed considerably. The fruit has dimished a little on the nose, and the spice and herb elements are coming out more. There's a lovely lick of mocha oak as well.

On the palate, the cherry and dark berry fruits are more to the fore. Tannins and acid are also noticeable, and play a good supporting role. Some savoury elements are also present, and overall the wine is balanced by these elements. Medium to long finish closes out a very good wine.

No rush to drink these. If they are at their peak, they will hold for another 3-5 years, and possibly improve slightly over that time.
