TN: Peel Estate Shiraz 2011

Post by Waiters Friend »

Dark crimson in colour. Typical for this wine, the nose is expansive, with lots of dark plums and berries, vanilla, mocha, cloves, and spice almost bordering on Christmas cake, The palate is full, with rich dark fruits over a little chocolate, and ably supported by grippy tannins just starting to integrate into the wine. There's a little slipperiness on the palate, and a little savouriness before the wine finishes quite long.

From experience with this wine (which is released at 6 years of age), it is just entering its drinking window, and still has a way to go. Looking pretty good right now, though.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Three years on, and there is modest development.

Fruit has diminished somewhat, but still up front. Savoury developed characters are emerging, but not yet overtaking the fruit. Still lots of mocha and spice. Very well balanced, and singing nicely at 11 years. Plenty of time left in this.

I still have a few bottles, and will give the next one at least another year before opening. A top wine from a very good vintage.
