TN: Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2013

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

It's been a while since I recorded a TN on this wine. This from the Grand Cru tasting group in late 2015:

Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2013 (Tasmania). This vineyard was planted in 1988, and was acquired by Shaw and Smith a couple of years ago. Medium garnet in colour, with strawberry, raspberry and a fair amount of fruit sweetness. The palate shows juicy cherries, clean acid, and supporting super-fine tannins. The finish is reasonably long and linear. Descriptors like ethereal and delicate were used. The group agreed the wine is very young, and should develop well.

Not surprisingly, this has developed considerably in the intervening 6+ years. The strawberries and raspberries have morphed into cherries on the nose, along with some stalky notes and savouriness. The palate remains fairly true to the previous descriptions, although it has filled out a little and is not quite a linear. The terms ethereal and delicate still apply to a large degree - although there's a fair amount of power in the wine after the initial delicacy.

Excellent pinot noir, and goes superbly with my partner's mushroom risotto made with duck stock. Perfect!

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
