TN: Howard Park Allingham Chardonnay 2011

Post by Waiters Friend »

The first vintage of this label - the top of the range from Howard Park. Fruit sourcess are Great Southern and Margaret River - later vintages have tende towards Margaret River.

Yellow colour with golden tinges. Complex nose with a lot going on here: citrus, yellow peaches, a touch of vanilla, savoury oak, stone fruits, toasted grain, all meshing in well together. The palate is textural, with the fruit showing signs of development - certainly no sharp edges or tartness here and acid in support without dominating. A layer of savouriness underlines the fruit across the palate and again, this is a wine of complexity. Long and satisfying finish.

Probably not improving (no surprise at 11 years old), but a fantastic chardonnay now. Everything's here. Check out younger vintages if you have them, and don't be afraid to age them.

Cheers
Allan

I drank a 2013 of this a couple of years ago and it was lovely - quite buttery I recall.
