1983 Moët et Chandon Champagne
Light golden colour. Fresh nose of apples and hints of bread and yeast. Amazingly, not really showing its age. The palate too is undeveloped, if a little primary. I have had 5 bottles of this in the last 12 months and remain amazed how well this champagne has lasted. Good length, nice clean finish and full of bubbles. It has never transformed into anything spectacular, but remains a solid wine with years to go.

Glad to see your notes again on the forum. It is always fascinating to read about the wines that you have brought out of your "amazing" cellar to drink and share the notes with us.

Q. I am not really a champagne or (sparkling wine) drinker, but I am hosting a dinner, that I would like to start the night with a glass of bubbly. Without having to pay $200 for a 1996 Dom, what would you suggest as a great introductory champagne at around say $60 - $100.

Someone has recommended the Billecart NV at $60 as great stuff.
I would also really like to serve a true French champagne if possible.

Your thoughts or advice would be most appreciated.

Yes, the Billecart is very good but for around $70 you cannot go past the stunning 1996 Pol Roger. A vintage champers from agreat house from a great vintage that is drinking superbly now and will go 10 years. Stocks, however, are running low (in Sydney at any rate)
