I found this half bottle in the cellar, and the deep caramel colour made me wonder if it was dead. Only one way to find out.

The cork was quite difficult to extract (very firm) and the cork was clean except for the last 3mm or so. A good sign. I didn't realise until I opened it that it might qualify as a fortified wine - 15.2% alc in very small print.

The nose is not overly intense, but has most of what I would expect from a muscat. Caramel, vanilla, a little Christmas cake, and - grapes! Not in the fresh juicy sense, though. It's also accompanied by floral notes, maybe honeysuckle or jasmine. It's not especially thick or luscious, and seems to be drying out a little - the acid seems a little hard and there's none of the viscosity you might expect from a 'regular' fortified wine.

Nevertheless, and despite these descriptors, it's an intriguing wine, and I now wish I had realised it was a fortified (albeit lightly) wine before opening.
Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
