TN: John Kosovich Cabernet Malbec 2008

Post by Waiters Friend »

Kosovich is a long established (1922) Swan Valley producer, but the grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in Pemberton. 85% Cabernet.

Crimson fading to garnet in colour, and lighter than expected. The nose is fragrant, with lifted red fruits, violets blackberry and cocoa powder. The palate is medium-to-high acid, which is most noticeable on the tip of the tongue. There's strong supporting tannins (not clunky at all), and the fruit characters sit well over the top. Reasonably mouth-filling , with more cocoa and a touch of leather. Medium-to-full bodied and good length.

Most enjoyable. I have several younger vintages of this wine, and look forward to trying the 2010s

Cheers
Allan

Any views on their Chenin Allan ? Seem to be regarded as one of the best in the area, up there with Tripe.Iscariot.

Agree, the Kosovich Chenin is a creditable and age-worthy example of this variety. I've had them at 10 years old.

Also, Faber (also in the Swan Valley) does similar with unoaked chenin blanc, also age worthy. They have also started making a chenin matured in old oak for a few months, for texture. Both very good.
