Post by Guest »

hi folks

some french friends have recently moved to adelaide. they love the lifestyle here but have complained greatly about the local bread. do the adelaide forumits have any recommendations on the best places in adelaide to buy good sourdough/etc bread in town?

thank you very much!

Hi Guest

Your French friends haven't looked very hard.

They need to ask around about 'Matisse', without doubt the best artisanal bread around. Available in about 30-40 shops only.

Only a few weeks ago I was in a restaurant and started yapping to the table beside us, they turned out to be bread bakers themselves for a relatively boutique producer (the name eludes me at present but I knew their bread and it is reasonably good), anyway, this baker was in awe of Matisse bread. Thats gotta say something!

Bon appetite.

Regards
Glen

There is a pastrierre, what ever, that may make bread, located at Stepney on the corner of Magill and Osmond Rds...diagonally opposite the oriental hotel.
Or check out the backery in the Central Market.

Try these;
Mattisse Bread Bakery, 21 Mt Barker Rd, HANDORF, 8388-1258 or
Patisserie Royale, 64 Barnes Rd, Glynde, 8336-1502.
Yellow Pages are a great source, start at page 169.

I have tried to get lunch there from time to time but they are always sold out by mid-morning.
