TN: Guigal St Joseph 2003

Post by Waiters Friend »

From a hot year on the Cote Du Rhone.

Red / crimson in colour. A complex and developed nose with spices (cloves, cinnamon), meaty notes (charcuterie, bacon), black olives, violets, leather, and red cherries in the background. The palate shows more expressive cherry and plum fruit, with fine grained and well integrated tannins, and soft acid (possibly a result of the hot vintage). The wine has a juiciness about it, and finishes slightly drying but also refreshing.

This is a style of wine I would like to learn more about. Very satisfying.

Cheers
Allan

I have some La Turque and La Mouline from this vintage. Still not opened a bottle and not really thinking about it for at least another 3 to 8 years. It was very hot summer and I have tried some terrible, soupy and gloopy wines from this year, especially from Chateauneuf. This sounds great though.

You're a lucky man. I have a Cote Rotie and CNdP from that vintage and will probably drink the CNdP soon. If you have a couple, it might be worth checking one out just to see how it is travelling. And tell us about it, of course!
