This ia a cheapie wine from Richard Hamilton Wines. Usually around $10 or a little more a bottle, I got a case on special for $50 so had no high hopes really.
After two weeks of a strict diet of ham, turkey and other assorted leftovers I decided it was time for the long overdue aussie favourite of Spag bol for dinner. I had just bought this case prior to Christmas and it looked every inch a cooking wine.
Opened the bottle and the colour is good. Nice deep red. Nose a bit strange with a slight sulpher smell. Initially a bit thin and one dimensional but with a little air and a few sips it got better. Slight cherry, sweet flavours. Still no great complexity but an OK quaffer for picnics, barbys and for cooking. At $50 a case, it's a bargain. At $10 each, it's probably fair value. Not having tried any of the yellowtail wines, it's kinda what I imagine they would be like. Simple straightforward, sweetish, very easy drinking wines that don't offend and aren't designed to cellar. Was great in the Spag bol!

A good friend who drinks around this price point has picked up on the improved quality of the Synergy range.
The Richard Hamilton group of labels which includes Leconfield have definitely began an upward trend in quality since Paul Gordon took over the reins in 2002.
The Synergy range has been recently repackaged and well worth a look, the Chardonnay is very good as well according to my friend.
Yeh, I know, what am I doing with a friend who drinks c-through? I'm working on him!

If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!
