Thought this April 1 newslink to be honest.

“The Barossa is famous for its wine, food and spectacular sights, but what it needs is an iconic luxury hotel to cater to local and international guests that visit the region,” he says.

By world standards, the Barossa is short on fine dining. At any given time there's probably two or three over-performing eating establishments. A number of unique eating experiences though not catered for the short term jet-setter. I'd say some way to go before justifying the above. I ate at Seppeltsfield's Fino a few months ago and found it pub standard food.

Agree Jamie, spot on!
WR has made buckets with flogging budget wines to China. The current Seppeltsfield range is ordinary, and apart from the luxe tasting experiences of 100+ year Paras, but note now this is being very diluted by anyone wishing to taste their birth year, so stocks in years to come will be less, there is little interest in the wine department for me.
Have eaten at Fino 2-3 times, all very good, but can see where you are coming from. Had a meal in February before the shut down at Vintners ( fantastic) and still head and shoulders above anything else.
The whole Seppeltsfield village is a carnival, what next a cheese factory, boot maker? There is a thread on another forum about this, I think the proposed plan is a shocker, like a snake missing its head, but a chance for WR to trump the Cube. Certainly ear-marked for a very specific clientele. The Adelaide media are working themselves up in a lather over this, only to get the inevitable freebie when it actually opens.
I stay in small cottages when having a few days in the Barossa, that will continue.
Cheers Craig

haha i originally thought it looked like some kind of headless reptile. But on contemplation more of a giant Slug. This has a page in an old book i have that chronicles all the 'big stuff' around australia in the 1980's. The Big lobster, big banana, big orange, big prawn. There's actually some 'big' wine barrels and bottles in there too. McWilliams?
I'm sure a lot of the forumites from my vintage can remember being dragged to these god forsaken places.

This is one for the griswalds...."ok kids we're off to see the giant slug"!!

What about a hot air balloon? I'll get my commercial ticket and retire in the Barossa. What a joy!. Champagne is regionally inappropriate for a dawn patrol in a balloon. How about sparkling shiraz and a bacon and egg sandwich?

Think that market is already cornered...there are operators of Balloons and two sisters who fly choppers.
Do like the ideas of the bacon egg sanger and sparkling Shiraz, you might have me sorted for Easter

How many have you been to? A fun game of Big thing bingo

I am a bit surprised how few I have seen.. the Big Merino, the Big rocking horse, the Big Scotsman obviously, the Giant Koala, and the Leeuwin Way Whale which is apparently the name of the whale at Eucla.
I have been through Narrandera a bunch of times but sadly never seen the largest playable guitar.
