TN: Seppelts GR54 Vintage Fortified 1999

Post by Waiters Friend »

Still quite dark / red in the glass - I was expecting the start of an olive rim. This is not port in the tawny style - it is not overtly sweet, there's spices on the nose, along with coffee and salted caramel. Alcohol is 19.5% but is not obvious on the nose.

The palate is full and has some sweetness. There's some of the characters that you would expect from an Australian port, like Christmas cake and raisins - but these are almost in the background behind an almost sherry-like flavour. There's some glycerol, but again, not as much as you would get from a tawny. Coffee grounds are featuring here, along with black olives. However, at the end of the day (wine), there's sweetness - and considerable length.

I'm not sure that this note is doing the wine justice. The half-bottle will definitely disappear over 2 nights :)

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Hi Allan, is this a full bottle or one of those 375s Seppelt released in the late 90s?

The second option, Andrew.

Available now for members Wizz

Have had one and it is certainly better than the 98 previously released.

Certainly unreal QPR.
